Week 1 Assignment (April 6-10): Watch the linked video of Richard Scarry's Busy People.
Talk with a parent or sibling about a job you might like to do in the future. Then fill out the first two pages of your packet - Career Quest and 1 Career for Me (K-2nd grades). Career Quest and I am a Star (3rd-4th grade students). Week 2 Assignment (April 13-17): Here's a chance to explore some careers about helping - animals and people - that you might not have thought about before. Visit each of the following links:
Animal behaviorist - Hippotherapist - Marine Animal Trainer - Speech/Language Therapist - Smoke Jumpers - Cruise Ship Director Each page has additional links that you can explore if your choose to. Then complete the last four pages of your packet. If you do not have a packet, you can complete these pages instead:
Week 3 Assignment (April 20-24): This week is some fun ways for you to explore different career clusters. There are 16 career clusters. Follow the link Career Search and choose a career cluster that sounds interesting. When you click "Next" at the bottom of the page, it will then list different jobs that fall into that cluster. Pick a job that you like and it will let you watch a video about that job and give you details about what kinds of tools might be used, where you might work, and what your duties would probably be.
Try exploring at least three different clusters and jobs, then when you are done write a report about the job you like the best. Include the following items: the name of your job a picture of you doing that job some tools you might need for that job why you would like doing this job Week 4 Assignment (April 27-May1):
This is the last week of career exploration. Your final assignment is to tie it all together. On a piece of paper, draw/write a job that you think would be fun to do when you grow up. Also draw/write a job someone in your family does. Add your thoughts about whether you would like to do that job when you grow up. I have two different options for you to turn in your assignments for the month. You can take a picture of the different things you have done and email or class dojo them to me. You can turn them in to the school on Thursday, April 29th. Please email/dojo me if you have any questions. |
Week 1 Assignment (April 6-10): First create a document to record your thoughts and experiences as you explore careers.
Your first week is about self-exploration - go to this assessments page and complete three surveys: 1-what kind of student; 2-learning style; 3-character strength. In your document record the results of your three surveys and what you think these three things have to do with career choices. Week 2 Assignment (April 13-17): Now you get to take the Who R U survey that introduces you to the sixteen career clusters. There are 16 pages of statements - just put a check in the box next to the statement that fits you. You can check as many or as few on the page as you are interested in. In the document that you created last week, identify your top three clusters (they will be listed on the last page of your assessment).
Now explore those three clusters and in your document you need to list at least two jobs from each cluster that you might be interested in Week 3 Assignment (April 20-24): Now on to some real exploration. In your document last week, you listed three clusters and two jobs for each cluster that you find interesting. This week you are going to explore what that job might mean for you. In the following link is a site that will let you search by your career cluster and then by the job. Career Search You will need to add to your document how much education that job might require, what is the average income it would generate, and what the projections are for job growth (or how available would a job be in the national market). After those pieces of information, please add three tasks that the job requires, two tools that you might use, and two skills that are necessary. Each of these areas can be found in the grey box. Happy Exploring!
Week 4 Assignment (April 27-May1):
This is the last week of career exploration. So you are going to tie it all together. You will be turning in the document that you have been building - with a final reflection paper added. This reflection should include the following points: - what are two things you learned about yourself that will help you in your career? - what are two jobs that you really think you would like to focus on? - what school courses will be most helpful for you as you move on through middle and high school? - what kinds of programs at college might you need to think about? - will this job be one where you can find security and happiness (yes, no, explain why). There are different ways you can turn this assignment in. If you have a printer and would like to print it out and return it to the school you can do that on Thursday, April 29th. You can email me and attach your document ([email protected] or you can attach it as a file to a class dojo message. If you have any questions - email or dojo me. |
